At Whole Village, one of our goals is to incubate young farmers. This year we are pleased to welcome our 11 th CSA gardener, Adam El Sioufi, who is very busy creating beds in a one-acre plot in order to feed 30 families with organic, local vegetables this year. Adam remembers an inspiring Gr. 2 teacher who guided his class to plant greens and harvest them for a salad.

Along with a “desire to grow food in community”, Adam credits the Covid 19 pandemic for creating an opportunity to attempt that goal. After losing his desk job, he signed up for J. M. Fortier’s Market Gardener’s Master Class. He had already developed gardens in his backyard and managed a community garden in Toronto – it was time for the next step.  Adam is basing the garden process on the course, which helped clarify some unknowns and sharpened his vision of growing intensively and efficiently. His challenges have been many – seed shortages, delays in the supply chain, late arrival of equipment. But Adam is determined to create a healthy, beautiful garden to feed villagers and others from June to December.
